The "General Postgraduate Program"

The ‘General Postgraduate Program’

The General Postgraduate Program (GPP) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is a qualification program that is open to all doctoral candidates at Mainz University. With this program, JGU offers all doctoral candidates the same opportunities for further education during their doctorate.

The aim of the GPP is to promote interdisciplinary research and science-related skills and to impart key qualifications. Through its interdisciplinary approach, the GPP also supports the university-wide networking of young academics and enables them to get to know the scientific working methods of other institutes.

The Center for Quality Assurance and Development (ZQ) at Mainz University is responsible for the conception, organization and supervision of the GPP.

Target group and participation requirements

The GPP is open to all doctoral students at the University of Mainz and the ‘Universitätsmedizin’ - regardless of whether they are enrolled as doctoral students, working as research assistants, scholarship holders or external doctoral students.

In addition, doctoral students from the Graduate School of Excellence (GSE Mainz), the ‘DFG-Graduiertenkolleg’, the Max Planck Graduate Center (MPGC) and other research institutions cooperating with Mainz University (e.g. the Helmholtz Association) can also take part in the courses.

The program is financed by JGU state funds. Participation in the courses is therefore free of charge.

To participate in the courses, interested parties must register as members of the program.

Members receive access to an extensive range of courses and up-to-date information relevant to doctoral studies. They can get in touch with other doctoral candidates and benefit from collegial advisory groups.
