JGU's self-conception, anchored in its mission statement, to regard research and teaching as tasks of equal importance and to achieve excellence in both areas is emphasised, among other things, by the awarding of the JGU Teaching Prize.
The Teaching Award was introduced by the JGU Senate in 2010 as part of the promotion of teaching and academic teaching skills. Since the winter semester 2016/17, the Gutenberg Teaching College (GLK) has been responsible for awarding the prize.
Two people from each of JGU's ten faculties and two art colleges are honoured in turn for their outstanding achievements in teaching. In this way, the Johannes Gutenberg University is sending out an important signal that good teaching is valued.
