Lessons learned from the Implementation of a Professional Development Portfolio in Initial Teacher Education

The session will look at the lessons learned from the implementation of the Professional Development Portfolio (PDP), as an integral part of the initial teacher education program offered by the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. The session will be divided into three parts. In the first part we will look at the rationale and theoretical framework behind the introduction of the PDP; the challenges and opportunities faced in the implementation of the PDP; and first reactions of student-teachers and Faculty members to the PDP. In the second part of the session, we will share some examples of student-teachers’ work, highlighting the development of a teacher identity. In the third and final part, we will discuss what to look out for when introducing a teaching portfolio, what works and what contributes to the successful implementation of a teaching portfolio. The presentation session will be followed by questions and discussion.
