Anna Schmitt is a lecturer and PhD candidate in the English Literature and Culture section
at the Department of English and Linguistics at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Her
doctoral thesis focuses on the narrative function of objects in modernist short fiction by
Katherine Mansfield, Elizabeth Bowen and Virginia Woolf. Other research interests include
aspects of emotion and cognition while reading, material culture, literary-linguistics, specific
modes of writing (gothic fiction, literary utopias and dystopias) and contemporary British literature.
