DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND LINGUISTICS: EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES 2023/24
We cordially invite you to participate in a series of events, in which various exchange opportunities will introduce themselves to you. Some of these events will take place online, some of them will be face to face. Presentations for asynchronous perusal will be uploaded shortly after each event.
Please note that participation in the respective event is MANDATORY for your application. This means that if your application contains obvious errors showing that you neither took part in the live event nor read the requisite material (uploaded shortly thereafter), you will be disqualified. All session links (for TEAMS) or room numbers (for face-to-face meetings) will be communicated via this page https://www.english-and-linguistics.uni-mainz.de/austauschprogramme-auslandsstudium/ in due course.
So here are the events we have scheduled for you (all events are planned for real-life times rather than academic times, so 6 pm means 18:00 rather than 18:15):
Patrick Gill: STUDYING/WORKING/INTERNING/VOLUNTEERING ABROAD
Thu, 3 Nov., 6 pm, Philosophicum: P 2 (face-to-face event)
General overview of the programmes available: What opportunities are there? What counts for your obligatory stay abroad? What requirements are there? How can you fulfil requirements without taking part in any of our programmes?
Sigrid Rieuwerts & Dominik Wallerius: SCOTLAND and IRELAND with GET and LPlus
Wed., 9 Nov., 5 pm, Philosophicum P 3 (face-to-face event – place tbc)
Would you like to study in Scotland or Ireland, or, better still, become a teaching assistant in Mainz University’s GET programme to help Scottish pupils in their acquisition of German? Teaching assistances are exclusively aimed at students of Lehramt, and in addition to Erasmus funding, there are also several DAAD-funded stipends available for LPLus.
DIRECT EXCHANGE US/CANADA
Anne Bull & Simge Büyükgümüş: DIRECT EXCHANGE OI/Scheiding
Nina Heydt & Julia Velten: DIRECT EXCHANGE OI/Banerjee
Thu., 10 Nov., 6-8 pm, Philosophicum: P 11 (face-to-face event)
Interested in experiencing the United States or Canada firsthand? The Direct Exchange Program for American Studies students at Mainz offers various exchange opportunities from simple undergraduate studies to teaching/research assistantships for graduate level studies.
Sonja Georgi & Patrick Gill: ERASMUS IN THE REST OF EUROPE
Thu., 17 Nov., 6-8 pm (online event held on MS Teams)
Fancy studying in Spain or Sweden? Poland or Italy? Austria or Denmark? These opportunities do not fulfil the requirements for obligatory BEd/MEd stays, but they do give you a chance to acquire valuable life skills, discover a whole new country, make new friends and gain new language skills, while collecting credits for your Mainz studies!
Patrick Gill: DIRECT EXCHANGE ENGLAND AND WALES (plus ERASMUS in IRELAND)
Wed., 23 Nov., 6 pm, Philosophicum: P 5 (face-to-face event)
How to apply for one of the ELC section’s placements in England, Ireland, Wales (largely unsupported by ERASMUS grants).
Julia Velten: AMERICAN STUDIES SUMMER SCHOOL
Tue., 6 Dec., 6 pm, Philosophicum: P 3 (face-to-face meeting)
This three-week program offers an on-site learning experience in the US-American South. On our journey from Little Rock, AR to Washington, D.C. we will explore southern history, literature, food, music, and culture.
