Habilitation (Postdoctoral qualification)

"Habilitation is a way to provide evidence of excellent academic achievement and educational (didactic) proficiency (teaching qualification), and is obligatory for one to be appointed as a professor. This qualification is supposed to give the applicant the possibility to teach independently (venia legend) within a certain area of studies at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz." (see §1 of the postdoctoral qualification regulations).
