The international start-up conference "Modeling and Measurement of Competencies in Higher Education" organized by Prof. Dr. Sigrid Blömeke and Prof. Dr. Olga Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia was held in Berlin at the end of February 2011. The conference acted as a platform for an exchange of research experiences and perspectives within the interdisciplinary and international discourse with experts from Europe, the USA and Australia and thus gave impetus to the new funding initiative. Speeches, discussion rounds and poster presentations provided diverse theoretical and methodological access and the respective instruments with their scopes and limitations were presented and discussed in terms of their applicability. About 230 researchers attended the conference which implies a high interest in the conference topic. A conference transcript is to be published that includes the contributions of national and international experts (Blömeke, S., Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia, O., Kuhn, C. & Fege, J., in prep.).
