The Focus Program Translational Neurosciences (FTN) is a network of scientists at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz working in the field of biomedical research. Research group leaders from basic and clinical research work together on an interdisciplinary basis in the FTN.
In November 2010, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz decided to implement a scientific/strategic focus for its neuroscientific activities, which led to the creation of the Research Focus Translational Neurosciences (FTN).
The goal of the basic researchers and clinicians working in the FTN is to clarify physiological and pathophysiological measures for processes of neural adjustment and homeostasis of the nervous system, as well to translate the results into clinical activities. A goal of the FTN is to contribute to the clinical implementation of the almost exponentially growing increase in knowledge in the fields of molecular and cellular neurosciences.
The following issues are key focuses of FTN research interests: Plasticity, neurogeneration and interaction between the immune and nervous systems on the basis of development and experience.
