Collaborative Research Centre 1080: "Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Neural Homeostasis"

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has established the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) at the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) on January 1, 2013. The German Research Foundation has extended the funding period now by another 4 years until end of 2020. Spokesperson of the extended CRC is Prof. Dr. Amparo Acker-Palmer of the Goethe University in Frankfurt, who has contributed to this CRC with own research projects within her collaborations with the Rhine-Main Neuroscience Network. Prof. Dr. Acker-Palmer is head of the Institute of Cell Biology and Neurosciences and is fellow of the Gutenberg Research College (Gutenberg Forschungskolleg) of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Deputy spokesperson is Prof. Dr. Heiko Luhmann, Director of the Institute of Physiology of the University Medical Center in Mainz. The CRC aims to explore the molecular and cellular interdependencies, which enable the brain to maintain a balanced function – the network homeostasis. From a deeper understanding of such mechanisms, the work of the participating scientists will lead to a better understanding of homeostatic mechanisms and their role after harmful events, and thereby build the basis for an improvement in diagnosis and, ultimately, treatment.
