The introductory lecture to modern philosophical ethics begins with a reflection on our everyday moral experiences and the resulting phenomenology of morality. This is followed by an examination of current contractualist ethics concepts, the problems of which are explained with reference to philosophical traditions of thought. The Kantian ethics present a fundamental alternative to contractualism. With the help of discourse ethics, an attempt is made to develop and justify a viable ethical concept that can be connected to these traditions and their insights as well as to the challenges of modern post-metaphysical thought. The course is intended as an introduction to ethics for theologians, but can also be attended by students from other subjects.Dates
