In June 2019, the European Commission selected a total of 17 European higher education networks to rethink the European Higher Education Area with visions and bring it to life. One of these networks is the FORTHEM Alliance under the leadership of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU).
The aim is to improve the exchange and cooperation of students and lecturers, researchers and science support staff within the alliance. In FORTHEM, the JGU, the Université de Bourgogne in France, the Uniwersytet Opolski in Poland, the Universitat de València in Spain, the Università degli Studi di Palermo in Italy, the Latvijas Universitāte in Latvia and the Jyväskylän yliopisto in Finland cooperate. Cooperation with non-university partners at the different universities is also planned.
In seven labs, international and interdisciplinary work is carried out on socially relevant topics. These include the "Diversity and Migartion" lab: questions of identity and linguistic diversity in different European regions, projects on integral health care for migrants, research on the representation of migration in the media, on discrimination-sensitive educational work and much more - different approaches and perspectives are to be interlinked and further developed to open up new horizons for students and academic staff.
Internationally, this lab is coordinated by Francesco Lo Piccolo, Annalisa Mangiaracina and Giuseppe Paternostro from the Università degli Studi di Palermo. Gerhard Kruip is the speaker of the lab at JGU.
The Lab follows an inclusive approach and wants to encourage participation. We are looking forward to ideas, contributions to discussions or initiatives in the field of "Diversity and Migration"!
