The Study of Religious Education is a subdiscipline of Practical Theology. In teaching and research it is concerned with religous socialisation, education and learning. On these phenomena research is conducted in particular with regard to the places of learning like school (didactic method of religious education), congregation (catechesis) and society. Research in Religious Education is based on a theological-pedagogical double perspective. This perspective permitts a pedagogical reflexion of processes of acquisition and instruction of religious traditions. Thus, the study of religious education adds to the training of church staff and future teachers of religious education.
