He studied Catholic theology at Philosophisch-Theologischen Hochschule St. Georgen, Frankfurt/M., at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University, Bonn, and at Westfälische Wilhelms- University, Münster, including legal sciences. Degree: Dipl. theol. 1986

1997 PhD in Catholic Theology (Dr. phil.) at Osnabrück University

2000 Completion of Juris Canonici Licentiatus (JCL) (Lic. iur. can.)

2004 Habilitation in Canon Law
