Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz can be readily reached by road, rail, and air. It is served by many public bus and tram lines. There are several related stops as the university campus is rather large. The Mainz public transport bus and tram services offer connections to nearly all destinations within Mainz and Wiesbaden.

The city of Mainz has a main station and a number of other rail stations. Please check the Deutsche Bahn website for train timetables. The easiest way to get to the Gutenberg Campus is to alight at the main station and to then take a bus or tram. The following lines serve the university from the main station:
6 (bus towards Münchfeld/Gonsenheim)
51 (tram towards Lerchenberg)
53 (tram towards Lerchenberg)
54 (bus towards Klein-Winternheim)
55 (bus towards Finthen)
56 (bus towards Finthen/Wackernheim)
57 (bus towards Bretzenheim)
59 (tram towards Hochschule Mainz)
64 (bus towards Hartenberg)
65 (bus towards Hartenberg)
68 (bus towards Budenheim)
75 (bus towards Schwabenheim/Ingelheim)
90 (bus towards Finthen)
91 (bus towards Lerchenberg)
We would recommend using the tram lines 51, 53, and 59 (overview all lines) all of which stop directly at the main entrance to the campus (stop "Universität I"). Please stay in the tram till the next stop "Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg" which is situated in only 5 minutes of walking distance to our Department of Chemistry in Duesbergweg 10-14.
For the journey from the Mainz main station to the Campus, you can buy a short hop ticket known as a "Kurzstrecken-Ticket" in German (until stop "Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg"). It is cheaper than a normal ticket and can be purchased from a ticket machine either at the tram stop or on the tram. You can find additional information online on the website of the Mainz public transport operator, the Mainzer Verkehrsgesellschaft.
