The focus of the lecture series is on how the human brain masters the highly complex task of processing speech. Language acquisition and development are also analyzed from a neuroscientific point of view.
What is language? How does it work? How is it represented in the mind? – Prof. Dr. Angela D. Friederici's research focuses on the neurocognition of speech processing and language acquisition. The internationally renowned neuropsychologist has made it her life's goal to unlock the secret to the connection between speech and the brain.
The lectures present the neurobiological principles of speech and demonstrate its development during childhood. They explain why learning a language is so difficult for adults and show how humans differ from apes in their communication skills and what the genetic basis may be. The lectures will also address how humans use language to have a specific impact on an audience. Prof. Dr. Angela D. Friederici will discuss aspects of evolution and genetics, as well as literature with internationally renowned guest speakers.
The goal of the Johannes Gutenberg endowed professorship's 11th series of lectures is to show how enlightening the relationship between neuroscientific research and linguistic issues is in understanding language.
