African Languages at the Department

Two African Languages are regularly taught at the department:

Bambara

Bambara belongs to the Mande language cluster and is spoken mainly in Mali, but to a lesser extent also in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea. Famous musicians like Salif Keita, Mori Kanté and Alpha Blondy sing in Bambara.

Swahili

Swahili (or Kiswahili) is the best known and most widely used language in East Africa. Swahili is a Bantu language and spoken by over 50 million people in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and the border regions of neighbouring countries.
