CDs

In the 1980s LPs, singles and MCs have been replaced as the leading musical medium by CDs. Thus, the collection of approx 2980 CDs consists mainly of recordings since the 1990s, but it also includes re-editions of older recordnings, reaching back to the 1920s. Discs, produced both for the local markets in Africa and for the world music audience in the West, as well as field recordings, are available. With few exceptions (Mauritius, Reunion, Chad, etc.), recordings of all countries of the continent are available, regional focus also is on West Africa and the west-central Africa. A few CDs feature artists form America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
