This master seminar concentrates on precision tests of physics with quantum experiments. The experimental setups include traps for atoms and ions, matter wave interferometers and advanced spectroscopic methods. We address physics tests like how equal do matter and antimatter behave, are the fundamental constants such as the fine structure constant really constant, or if there is a permanent dipole moment in the electron? Moreover, we address the deep question how Einstein gravitation can be coexisting with quantum physics, and discuss experimental schemes where this is investigated. The students will experience a structured and topical coherent sequence of presentations, such that they can get an overview of the field. The coherence between topics leads to a deeper understanding as the students are able to connect their own presentations closely with those of others, in strong contrast to a seminar of rather unrelated topics. The topics include: What is a fundamental test of the standard model and why do we need it? Quantum logic spectroscopy, atomic clock comparisons, Thorium nuclear and Highly charged ions for clocks, Atom-interferometric measurements, matter anti-matter comparisons, tests for dark matter and permanent electric dipole moments, ect.Dates
