Please send an e-mail as soon as possible to demsar@uni-mainz.de with a couple of preferences. Topics and dates (Seminars are held Mondays, 14:15-15:45) for the schedule are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Once your chosen topic has been confirmed you are required to contact the corresponding supervisor to arrange a suitable date (subject to availability) and to get material to prepare the talk. Please make sure you also register for this course via Jogustine.

Here are some regulations:

1.      Contact the supervisor of the seminar at least 4 weeks before the assigned lecture date!
2.      Discussion of the first draft of the lecture at lthe atest 2 weeks before the lecture
3.      Test talk with supervisor at least 1 week before the lecture date
4.      Length of presentation: 30 minutes + 10 minutes Q&A
5.      Language: English

If you have any further questions or would like further information, please contact Jure Demsar at demsar@uni-mainz.de

Condensed Matter Physics Master Seminar SS2021:
Dynamics of emergent quasiparticle and collective excitations in condensed matter

Functional properties of condensed matter systems are governed by the dynamics of low-energy quasiparticle and collective excitations which are a result of interactions in many-particle systems. Examples of such emergent excitations are phonons, magnons, plasmons, polarons, Skyrmions, soft modes…, just to mention a few. In this seminar we will address a few selected examples of emergent quasiparticles and collective modes, focusing on tracking their dynamics.
