Contents

This lecture gives an introduction to modern particle physics, covering both experimental aspects and basic theoretical concepts. This includes a full discussion of the Standard Model with all known elementary particles and their interactions via the electromagnetic, weak and strong force. The lecture also addresses the limitations of the Standard Model and the (many) open questions in particle physics of the universe that are driving current and future research projects.

List of topics:
- Kinematics of relativistic particle scattering
- Feynman graphs, the basics of Feynman rules and cross section calculations
- Quantum Electrodynamics
- Basics of particle detection and accelerators
- Strong Interaction, Quarks and Hadrons
- Weak Interaction, Mixing and CP violation in the quark and neutrino sectors
- Symmetries and the gauge principle
- Precision tests of the Standard Model
- Higgs mechanism and the physics of the Higgs boson
- Unsolved mysteries of the Universe
