Profile

Currently, the state law on religious communities faces enormous challenges. Not only the new religious pluralisation and the segmentation of the religious sphere are in search of new answers but also the process of the profound, constitutionally instructed Europeanisation of the legal sphere leads to an imbalance in the carefully balanced relationship between state and church.

This led to the establishment of the ZiRR (Centre for interdisciplinary Studies on Law and Religion) at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz on 24 July 2014. This determines a long period of searching the right way of a coordination and cooperation between the research interests of scientists of different departments.
