There is a large network of venues, initiatives, associations, and organizations in Rheinland-Palatinate that are devoted to performing and promoting jazz. The Jazz and Popular Music Department is a part of this network. This provides not only an abundance of performing possibilities, but gives the Mainz School of Music, the state’s only music school, a unique chance to play an active role in shaping the jazz and pop scene in Rheinland-Palatinate.
One of our department’s most important inter-regional partners is the "Jazzinstitut Darmstadt," led by Dr. Wolfram Knauer. The exhaustive resources of this internationally recognized archive provide answers to a great range of questions related to jazz.
