Due to recent developments in biotechnology a large amount of data is obtained that can only be processed by automatic analysis. In many cases the upcoming questions can be modeled as mathematical optimization problems. We explore concrete issues of the biotechnology in Mainz and develop efficient algorithms for them. We take a proactive interest in computing model parameters that best explain the observed properties.
