The project aimed at using a chemical method (a novel technique in amber study) to degrade amber polymer structure into fragments that can be analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy. An aspect of the project was to involve the analysis of the amber samples using other already established techniques such as GC-MS (of solvent extract), FTIR and Raman analyses. Information from the chemical degradation products analyses was compared with those from already established methods.
