Updated funding opportunities of the Internal University research funding programs (Stufe I)
The funding programs for internal university research funding (Stufe I) have been strategically refined and fundamentally revised.
From now on, researchers in the early career phase (R2-R3) have the opportunity to apply for seed funding for third-party-funded research projects. With this measure, we also aim to create targeted incentives for developing innovative research ideas, to enable researchers to secure their own external funding and to support the development of an independent scientific career.
The maximum amount of seed funding is €10,000. The Executive Board has reserved an annual budget of €200,000. Information on which cost categories are eligible and which are not is provided in the application form.

In addition, doctoral candidates continue to be eligible for funding to organize scientific events. Since the beginning of 2026, this funding offer has been administered by the Gutenberg Academy.
Backdated applications are not accepted. Please submit your application at least eight weeks before the planned start of funding.
Please note that all applications must be received by November 15, 2026.
