Seminar courses
The Department of Anthropology and African Studies offers at least three seminar courses on African literatures each semester, which form part of the department's degree courses B.A. "Ethnologie" (Anthropology), M.A. "Ethnologie" (Anthropology), and B.A. "Afrikanische Sprachen, Medien und Kommunikation" (African Languages, Media, and Communication" as well as the interdisciplinary degree course M.A. "Weltliteratur" (World Literature).
Events in the Jahn Library
Guided tours as well as other events in the Jahn Library, such as the so called "biblio-speed-dating", are regularly offered in the context of seminar courses on African literatures and other courses taught at the Department of Anthropology and African Studies, Currently, none of these events can be offered; all seminar courses take place in virtual form.
Student involvement in African literature events
Students have the opportunity to take part in the organisation of events, such as exhibitions, Janheinz Jahn Symposia, or readings. Most recently, a team of several students was involved in the preparation of the exhibition "Sichtwechsel: Comic-Helden in und aus Afrika", which took place at the university's Schule des Sehens in the summer semester of 2018, as well as in a scenic reading. Furthermore, the 11th Janheinz Jahn Symposium was held as a student symposium, with contributors from the JGU Mainz as well as the Goethe University Frankfurt and the University of Bayreuth.
