Janheinz Jahn was a most painstaking bibliographer. With publications such as Die neoafrikanische Literatur: Gesamtbibliographie von den Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart (1965) and Bibliography of Creative African Writing (1971 with Claus Peter Dressler), he was one of the first scholars to attempt to compile a comprehensive bibliographic record of literary works by (neo-)African writers. His pioneering bibliographic work represents a significant contribution to research on African literatures.
This website is meant to link up to Jahn's bibliographic work.
A start was made in November 2011 with the publication of a bibliography of the anglophone literature of Zambia, compiled by Ranka Primorac:
An Overshadowed Literature: Mapping the Field. A Bibliography of Zambia's Literature in English
Also in November 2011, a bibliography on Ghanaian theatre, compiled by James Gibbs, was added:
Ghanaian Theatre: A Bibliography of Primary and Secondary Sources
In January 2014, a bibliography on critical writings on Wole Soyinka, also compiled by James Gibbs, was added:
A Bibliography of Secondary Sources on Wole Soyinka
It is hoped that further bibliographies will follow; proposals are welcome.
