In an extensively digitised and mobilised environment the old urban-rural-differences seem to dissolve. So do have regional differences become obsolete as a research topic for cultural studies? According to our day-to-day perception alone this doesn't seem to be the case, because even nowadays the rural region still gets used as a controversial foil for comparision, for example in medial presentations. In one case it is seen as a relic area, in the other as a local recreation area in accelerated times.In this seminar we want to use the Eifel as a case example for thinking about diverse everyday life-perspectives in due consideration of historical changes and for getting familiar with new and older anthropological positions regarding the relationship between culture and region.
