The University Chancellor

The Chancellor is responsible for University administration and finances.

Acting on behalf of the President, the Chancellor ensures that all administrative and legal
University business is undertaken in accordance with the statutes. Within this specific
area of responsibility, the Chancellor can also directly deputize for the President.

The Chancellor is appointed by the President, although the appointment must be approved
by the Ministry of Education, Science, Continuing Education, and Culture. The University
Council may also make nominations for the office of Chancellor. The Chancellor is appointed
for a period of eight years.

As of 01.11.2023, Ms. Annette Seliger is the acting Chancellor of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
