Requirements for the aptitude test
Requirements for the subject Organ with specialization in Organ score-reading and sight-playing or Organ improvisation
On registering for the aptitude test for the postgraduate Concert Exam course in the subject of Organ with specialization in Organ score-reading and sight-playing, two repertoire lists must be submitted. The first repertoire list should cover all works that the candidate has studied. The second repertoire list should include 20 organ works from multiple stylistic periods, including three works for organ alone and 12 choral organ works by J. S. Bach.
The examination committee will select works from this repertoire list totaling approx. 20 minutes of playing time. On registering for the aptitude test for the postgraduate Concert Exam course in the subject of Organ with specialization in Organ improvisation, a list of studied forms and styles must be submitted. One week prior to the aptitude test, the examination committee will select a form that must be performed as improvisation at the qualifying exam.
The following works totaling ca. 15 minutes of playing time are also to be performed at the aptitude test:
a) a brief, technically challenging piece from sheet music
b) Improvisation in a historical style or own musical idiom on a provided subject. Preparation time: 1 hour
Requirements for the instrumental subjects
On registering for the aptitude test for the postgraduate Concert Exam course, a repertoire list must be submitted covering all representative works studied by the applicant. The qualifying examination requires the performance of challenging entire works with a total playing time of at least 60 minutes. In selecting these works, the applicant should take into account stylistic diversity. The examination committee will select a recital program from the prepared works totaling ca. 15 minutes.
