Contents

Solid state Physics deals with the physical principles of a large number of chemically bound atoms in the solid state of matter. The large number of atoms requires new models that are typical for solid state physics. In spite of some approximations, these models allow for a quantitative description of many typical material properties in solid matter. The aim of this lecture is to introduce the most important models and to provide some tools for understanding recent developments in research and technology.

Topics:
- chemical bonds
- crystal structure
- structure analysis by diffraction
- lattice dynamics
- thermal properties
- electronic structure
- semiconductors
- magnetism
- soft matter

Additional information

Weakly exercises are organized to strengthen and expand the understanding and to apply the knowlege for solving practical examples.
Active participation in exercises is required to be able to take part in the written exam.
