Registration for the Foreign Language Courses

The registration for the language courses proceeds via Jogustine - Studies - Modules/Courses - Registration - Module/Course registration - Additional qualifications. The registration is possible only from the 10th of October 6 pm until the 14th of October 2 pm. Employees of the University of Mainz, ERASMUS students, guest students must fill out a form (see: downloads) and send it to:

The participation is only possible with the certificate of winter semester 2018/19, a printout of the tran (Transcript of records) or with the result of the placement test. Guest students have to apply for access to language courses with ZWW.

Please note that forms sent before or after the registration phase will not be processed.


Cancellations and change of course are not possible after the 14th of October 2 pm. Please note that you have to register for the course level you are allowed to attend – any incorrect registrations will be cancelled by the course management.


If you have prior knowledge in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian (new!) you have to take a placement test. Access to Turkish and Chinese course is possible with:

  • no prior knowledge (A1)
  • a certificate from previous course

Registration via Jogustine.


Placements tests take place on Tuesday 8th of October at 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 12 am, and 1 pm and on Thursday 10th of October at 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 12 am, 2 pm and 3 pm. The tests take place in a PC room N 33 in the Natural Sciences department, Anselm-Franz-von-Bentzel-Weg 12. The test itself takes between 20 and 35 minutes. However, bear in mind that there is additional time for registration and instructions.


No, there is no need to register. Only students of JGU and ERASMUS students have to bring their matriculation number/student card to the test.


The test consists of single-choice-questions or of C-questions (a sequence of short gap texts).


Yes, you can familiarize yourself with the format of the C-test. The electronic demo-version is accessible for everyone (see right column in the Download section). Follow the instructions for your personal C-test. The result will be shown right after the test.


The placement test for Russian is available online from Tuesday the 8th of October until Thursday the 10th of October. Please register on OpenOLAT and follow the link (it will be activated on the 8th of October). The test consists of 150 questions and takes 30 minutes. Immediately after taking the test you’ll know your result and the course level you can register for via Jogustine.


The students are placed in courses according to the ‘first come – first serve’ principle.


In this case, please contact the instructor or the respective coordinator of your language as soon as possible. Otherwise you will be removed from the course.
