Gutenberg Council for Young Researchers

By establishing the Gutenberg Council for Young Researchers (GYR), JGU has implemented another cornerstone of its institutional strategy, which received praise during the German Universities Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments.

Consisting of highly qualified experts from different disciplines, GYR perceives itself as an advisory body to the university management on strategic matters regarding the promotion of young researchers. Among the goals and responsibilities of GYR are

  • Developing strategic perspectives for young researchers and artists as well as working on suggestions as to the necessary measures
  • Providing advice to the university management, the faculties, the artistic schools, central departments and institutions, the Senate and University Council
  • Systemizing and increasing the visibility of existing support programs as well as developing new ones
  • Creating and offering a platform to articulate the concerns of young researchers and artists

The GYR’s executive committee not only assembles professors, but also representatives of young researchers at different stages of their careers ranging from before they obtain their doctoral degree to the advanced postdoc phase.

Supporting young researchers and artists is closely connected to research as well as teaching. This is why the GYR maintains strong links with the Gutenberg Research College (GRC) and the Gutenberg Teaching Council (GTC).
