Jonas Wolfs was awarded the Procter & Gamble Prize for his master’s thesis in Chemistry in February 2021. The prize, worth 1.000 euros, has been granted by the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) and Procter & Gamble (P&G) since 2003 to recognize outstanding scientific achievements.

In his master's thesis Jonas Wolfs investigated the "Accelerated decomposition of poly(lactic acid) in seawater". By incorporating biocompatible phosphate units into the polymers, predetermined breaking points were created that make the material degradable in seawater. In artificial seawater, with which natural conditions are simulated, Mr. Wolfs was able to show that such materials are degraded within a few days.
