Qualification

The "Challenges" profile area aims to promote the next generation of scholars. Under this premise, the questions pursued and results obtained within the framework of the profile area are continuously integrated into university teaching in order to introduce students to research (processes) at an early stage.

For this purpose, the disciplines involved in the profile area continuously develop teaching units in the form of lectures, (pro)seminars, and exercises embedded in regular modules. Interdisciplinary events and special formats, such as summer schools, preparation of interdisciplinary exhibitions, international conferences, excursions, lecture series, reading groups, etc., are also offered in close connection with the Q+ study program.

An overview of all teaching units linked to the Research Area can be found here (study).

Students are welcome to participate in field trips and excavations as well as internships in individual research projects that are part of the profile area at any time. The focus is on the on-site examination of original objects, the promotion of the independent acquisition of practical experience, and the teaching of appropriate knowledge, skills, and scientific methods.

In addition, numerous Bachelor's and Master's theses have already been written in individual project contexts of the Thematic Areas.

The Challenges profile area also encourages outstandingly qualified scientists (doctoral and post-doctoral candidates) to conduct independent research within the Thematic Areas or in new sections embedded in the interdisciplinary context at an early stage. In the meantime, a large number of dissertations and post-doctoral projects are in preparation.
