Academic Vita

Sophie Spallinger studied Media Studies at the Bauhaus University Weimar from 2013 to 2017. From 2015 to 2016, she worked as a student assistant at the junior professorship »Image Theory with focus on Moving Images«. From 2017 to 2020, she completed her M.A. in Film Studies/Media Dramaturgy at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and from 2018-2020, she was a student assistant at the Chair of Media and Culture Studies. Since 2021 she is a research assistant at the Chair of Media and Cultural Studies at the Institute of Film, Theater, Media and Cultural Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and is writing her dissertation on »Surveillance under Test Conditions«.

Since August 2021, Sophie Spallinger is a research assistant and PhD student in the research project »Urban Control Regimes« of the CRC 1482 »Studies in Human Categorization«. Her research focuses on security, securitization, surveillance and control of infrastructures, especially of contemporary urban railway stations in Germany and the USA. Her dissertation project focuses on trials of biometric surveillance systems at railway stations in Germany.
