School research ¹ is of special relevance to society. In addition to universities, schools play a key role in providing education. At the same time, school itself – as an institution – is undergoing constant changes, mainly due to the wide-spread installation of comprehensive schools, the discussion about inclusion and flight, and digitalization. Adequate research of the increasingly more frequent improvement and optimization of these processes, and of schools and lessons as a whole, requires an extensive cooperation between different disciplines and the accessibility to findings from school research and research of instruction.
The center provides an appropriate framework for this kind of research by pooling the expertises that JGU is providing from different teaching methodologies and related sciences (Educational research, Psychology, and Sociology) and by supporting cooperative research initiatives. Since one single institution of higher education cannot combine all of the expertise of school research, the center for school, education, and higher education research supports networking with renowned national and international experts and within the strategic alliance of Rhine-Main-Universities (RMU), which is comprised of the following universities: Technical University (TU) of Darmstadt, Goethe University in Frankfurt/M., and Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz. The school research projects that are undertaken at the center can be classified according to the following research foci: learning processes, educational processes, research of instruction, education reforms, and school improvement, professionalization of teachers, and changes within the education and school system.
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Tobias Feldhoff is the representative member of the pillar of school research within the ZSBH.

¹ School research is used as an umbrella term for any kind of school-related research that includes school research, research of instruction, and research of school-related professions. Thus, the term „school research“ is always used in its original conceptualization when all school-related research directions/fields are meant. If only one specific research direction/field is meant, the perspective in question will be mentioned explicitly.
