Prison staff working at prisons and youth correctional facilities in Rhineland-Palatinate are being offered the opportunity to train as prison-based educational counselors. The option is open to personnel responsible for providing support and advice to inmates in matters of education and occupational training. These include those involved in transitional phase management, social and educational services, department heads, residential group supervisors, and teaching staff.
The objective of the practice-oriented continuing education measures is to provide staff with the necessary expertise and help them acquire skills that they can use to handle the many challenges they face in the field of educational counseling. For example, the acquired capabilities should help them better cope with with entry interviews, assessment tests, residential group supervision, transitional phase management, aspects of the selection of vocational and educational options, continuing education counseling, learning assistance, and skills identification.
