The Department for Students with Children (Aurel) is an autonomous department according to statutes of the General Students’ Committee of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The university is the executive organ of the Students Body, a public corporation which is required by law.
Aurel represents the interests of studying Parents* at its own discretion and is only accountable to this group.
In the end of the end of the winter semester, at the General Assembly all parents are allowed to offer oneselves as candidates for the Department for Students with Children. Three of the candidates will be then elected only by the studying parents. The period of office is one year.
*) all enrolled students who are parents of own child(ren), stepchild(ren) or foster child(ren), expectant mothers and fathers (also on a vacation semester)
