Jun.-Prof. Dr. Susanne Michl

BACKGROUND: Susanne_klein2-2
I am trained in History and French Literature Studies at the Universities of Provence and Tübingen in a German-French joint degree programme Tüb/Aix. I obtained my doctoral degree in History at the Eberhard-Karls-Universitäty Tübingen, Germany in 2006. Since then, I have been Research Assistant at the Institutes of Ethics and History of Medicine in Tübingen, Greifswald and Göttingen as well as at The Max-Planck Institute for Human Development in the Research Center „History of Emotions“ in Berlin. Between October 2011 and September 2012 I got a Interim Professorship at the Department fo Medical Ethics and History of Medicine in Göttingen substituting for Prof. Claudia Wiesemann. Since 2013 I am Research Assistant at the Institute for History, Philosophy and Ethics of Medicine of the Johannes Gutenberg University Medical Center in Mainz.

THE GRK IS...
a bunch of people from various disciplines, professional backgrounds, academic degrees and countries working together, and first and formost taking their time to understand each other's language and reasonings. Even though this could at times become challenging, even unsettling we all got quite used to think in terms and in the framing of the discipline in which we have been trained. I'm looking forward to this joint effort with the objective of bridging gaps not only between life science and cultural studies but also between clinical practice and medical humanities or between young and established scholars. _MG_1871

MY GOAL IS...
to come up with new ways of doing cultural studies on biomedical and clinical issues or, in other word, of filling the concept of „Medical Humanities“ with new approaches, methods and theories which end up being fruitful and of interest on both sides - for researchers working in the cultural and social studies and for researchers and practitioners working in biomedicine and in the clinic.

MY PROJECT...
Currently, I am working on narratives written in the context of a clinical study and internet-therapy („Lebenstagebuch“) by elderly Germans who have been traumatized during their childhood in World War II and are still suffering from Post-Traumatic-Distress-Syndrome (in collaboration with the Prof. Christine Knaevelsrud, PD Dr. Philipp Kuwert and Dipl. Psych Maria Böttche from the Berlin Center of Torture Vicitims bzfo).
