Molecular mechanisms of migration of OPC and establsihment of cell polarity

OPC migrate to reach the axons that they myelinate. They respond to chemotactic signals as well as to adhesive cues in the substrate. Cell migration as well as axonal ensheathment necessitates the establishment of a polarised state in the OPC where cytoskeleton and membrane trafficking pathways are orientated towards the direction of migration and the axonal contact site. We are studying the role of the NG2 protein in directed migration of OPC and establishment of cell polarity.
