KURZZUSAMMENFASSUNG

The extraction and classification of thematic information from remotely sensed images is a key application of remote sensing in environmental studies. As more and ever higher resolution remote sensing data become available, there is a need to develop more effective and powerful image processing methods. This book presents an information fusion method for improving the accuracy of land-use classification based on high-resolution satellite imagery. The method integrates spectral, spatial and structural information existing in the image. It has proves effective in generating sharp interclass boundaries and reducing the number of mixed pixels. The proposed procedure involves the use of a variety of techniques including multispectral classification, contextual classification, edge detection, and region growing algorithms.

Der Autor

Wanxiao Sun is an Assistant Professor in remote sensing and GIS in the Department of Geography, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, U.S.A. She received a Ph.D. degree in remote sensing and GIS from the University of Mainz, Germany, in 1999, an M.S. degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989, and a B.S. degree from Nanjing University, China, in 1986. Prior to joining the faculty at the Southern Illinois University, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of California, Berkeley and a Research Fellow at University of Mainz. Her current research interest include image classification and feature extraction algorithms, information fusion of multiresolution data, the integration of RS and GIS techniques in environmental studies, and 3D visualization and simulation.
