Electron Microscopy Centre Mainz

Through the ever more intensive exploitation of special properties of nanoscopic or nanostructured materials in all aspects of life and the efforts to optimize these properties, electron microscopical analysis has become one of the most important tools. In combination with other microscopic methods it allows a complete structural characterization of synthetic and natural samples up to atomic resolution.

The Electron Microscopy-Center Mainz (EMC-M) is operated since 2004 as a joint academic institution of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P).

For carrying out research projects of materials and life sciences an extensive equipment of electron microscopes and preparation facilities is available. Scientists of the participating institutions ass well as external users have the possibility to perform electron microscopy research independently at the facilities of the EMC-M. The collaborators of the EMC-M actively support the scientific questions assigned to the EMC-M and carry out electron microscopy projects and orders from external clients. For advancement and development of new techniques in electron microscopy the EMC-M works as well on own scientific research projects.
