Program structure – Bachelor of Education Physics

The teaching degree program ‘Bachelor of Education Physics’ consists of Physics and one additional specialist field. In addition to attending courses on teaching methodology for their respective subject, students also enroll in Education Studies. The program is divided into an introductory study period (Grundstudium) and an advanced study period (Hauptstudium). The standard period of study is six semesters.

During the first two semesters (introductory study period), students will focus on the fundamentals of experimental and theoretical physics as well as mathematics. The first two semesters are nearly identical to the degree program ‘Bachelor of Science Physics’. This makes it easier for students to transition between the programs. During the subsequent four semesters (3rd-6th), students will learn the fundamentals of theoretical physics and specialize in experimental physics (advanced study period).
In the accompanying lab courses, students will practice how to use measuring instruments and conduct experiments in the laboratory.
The advanced study period also encompasses teaching methodology. Provided that Physics was selected as the first of the two specialist fields, the Bachelor’s thesis and the final oral examination will be scheduled for the sixth semester.

Introductory study period

First to second semester

  • Fundamentals of experimental physics (lectures and courses)
  • (Mathematic) calculation methods (lecture and course)

Advanced study period

Third to sixth semester

  • Fundamentals of theoretical physics (lecture and course)
  • Specialization in experimental physics (lecture and course)
  • Conducting experiments in laboratories and using measuring instruments (lab course)
