The degree program “Master of Science Meteorology” is based on the knowledge that was acquired during the Bachelor’s degree program and is divided into a subject specialization phase and a research period. During the subject specialization phase, students will acquire specialist meteorological knowledge which builds on the basics learned during the Bachelor’s degree program. The research period introduces students to autonomous scientific research. In addition to a project that the students work on during their research lab course, the most important part of the research period is the Master’s thesis. In the Master’s thesis, students must demonstrate the ability to carry out scientific research and present key qualifications such as project management, teamwork, as well as the representation and presentation of scientific results. The degree program lasts four semesters (standard period of study).
Specialization phase
First to third semester
- Atmospheric Dynamics, Atmospheric Radiation, Chemistry of the Atmosphere, Trace Mineral Dynamics and Modelling (lectures, exercises, internships and seminars)
- Advanced Meteorological lab course
- Meteorological field trip
Research period
Third to fourth semester
- Preparation module for the Master’s thesis (seminar)
- Master’s thesis and oral examination
