Bachelor of Science Meteorology

The degree program Bachelor of Science Meteorology covers the essential basics of mathematics and physics. Building on this foundation, students take basic courses in theoretical and experimental meteorology, which are then supplemented by their choice of minor selected from a large range of subjects.

The science-oriented degree program, Bachelor of Science Meteorology, incorporates the following three categories:

  • An in-depth overview of the basics of mathematics and physics. Students attend the mandatory module in mathematics “Mathematik für Physiker 1-3” (Mathematics for Physicists 1-3) as well as in experimental physics “Experimentalphysik 1-2” (Experimental Physics 1-2) and theoretical physics “Theoretische Physik 1-2, inklusive Mathematische Rechenmethoden” (Theoretical Physics 1-2 including (mathematic) calculation methods).
  • Basic and specialist subject-specific knowledge in experimental and theoretical meteorology. Students will also take part in various lab courses to become proficient in the practical application of knowledge. The mandatory modules encompass the following topics: thermodynamic methods, fluid mechanics, data analysis, statistics, weather forecast as well as applied programming and numerics.
  • Additional skills, in the form of minor subjects, can be chosen from the range of faculties or other subjects at the Johannes Gutenberg University
